Sony Vegas 8 and IE7. Error in script. Cannot start up. | PIXscotland

Sony Vegas 8 and IE7. Error in script. Cannot start up.

I recently had need to use this application for the first time in a couple of weeks. When I tried to start Vegas 8, the application failed with an error:

Internet Explorer Script Error
Automation server can’t create object
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Me/Local%20Settings/Temp/udat/upsell.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Quite annoying. I tried many things including restarting the machine, uninstalling and reinstalling Vegas, Manually deleting all registry keys for the program, nothing worked.

Since this error is related to some browser related issue, I reduced all security options in IE7 to their minimum, but this also failed to resolve the issue. Finally, I uninstalled IE7. Success!

Follow this link to find out how to uninstall IE7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177
Of course, if you are afflicted with the problem called “Vista” you are pretty much screwed. There are NO visible patches or updates for this issue coming from Sony.

IE7 and IE8 are pretty much on us now, and we’ll struggle to be without them soon. Let’s just hope that these companies can get their act together and resolve the problems, before I switch to another application or platform.

    1. Didnt work for me. When i type %windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe , it says that the file wasnt found. And when i checked my explorer, it says that i have version 6, but the problem still shows up, i tried reinstalling and all.. And in my temp folder there is not a folder called udat!

    2. Great! Awesome! This worked for me too (Start – Run – Type:’%windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe’ – Uninstall).

    3. Thank you. I agree.

In reply to all, but in particular “bondo.”

Recently something broke. I have not worked out what it is, but I now have a system that does not work with this software, even without IE7. I can only suggest a recent Microsoft Update caused this issue. Currently I only have one legacy PC that works with Vegas. This is being kept not-updated so I can continue to use Vegas until my transfer to Adobe Premiere CS2 is complete.

Sony has not been forthcoming with potential problems that could cause this crash. It does seem that something is broken, yet Sony do not care. My policy of no longer buying their hardware, due to rip-off pricing, has now totally extended to all of their products.

CS2 is not a favoured program for me, but it is operational and affordable.

    5. This didnt work for me. 🙁 I went to add/remove and i dont have any version of IE listed there. I run firefox.
Ive tried all these options, and they arent working because it says IE7 never existed on my pooter in the first place. hmmmmmmmm

Here’s a copy of the post at Microsoft, just in case they decide to remove it!

Method 1: Use “Add or Remove Programs” to uninstall Internet Explorer 7
Step 1: Use “Add or Remove Programs” to uninstall Internet Explorer 7
      a. Click Start, and then click Run.
      b. In the Open box, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
      c. In the list of programs, click Windows Internet Explorer 7, and then click Remove.
      d. Follow the wizard instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 7.
After you uninstall Internet Explorer 7, double-click the Internet Explorer icon to verify that Internet Explorer 6 is restored.

If you cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 by using this method, try Method 2.
